The travels and trials of Thomas

The whole family just returned from a week-long trip to Washington, DC.  Angela was there for a neuroscience convention, and Joe and Thomas tagged along.  It was trying at times as everyone shared a hotel room.  (It's much easier putting Thomas down for a nap when you can walk into another room.)

The weather was very nice, and Joe and Thomas often took walks around town while Angela was at her conference.  Friday, however, the whole family walked down from their hotel to the national mall, the Washington Monument, and the Smithsonian American History museum.  While his parents hoped that Thomas would like seeing the big trains and cars, he did not care.  A day or two later, Joe and Thomas went to the Air and Space museum.  Joe hoped that Thomas would focus on the aircraft hanging throughout the building, but instead the boy stared ahead blankly while his father pushed the stroller around the museum.  Finally, right before they left, Joe picked Thomas up to show him the planes above his head.  Thomas found something and focused in on it.  Joe felt great, until he realized his son found a ceiling fan high above the atrium.  Dozens of aircraft and rockets, and Thomas is fascinated by the ceiling fan.

Besides his trips around town, Thomas's second tooth broke through while in DC.  He was doing fine with one tooth, but two teeth seem to really be bothering him.  Hours spent in his car seat and a new and different place to stay didn't help the situation, either.

Here are a couple pictures of the boy, ready to scream at the world.
