Thomas's favorite toys

Thomas, the little mover, is always looking for things to put in his mouth.  Earlier posts have shown him playing with his blocks, crawling after a ball, chewing on a cup, and chasing after the dog.  These aren't the only things that mystify the lad.  He's been known to go after shoes, especially the laces, his father's briefcase, computer cords, and newspapers.  The other night Angela the scientist decided to see what Thomas likes to play with the most.
From left to right:  briefcase, small cup, big cup, apple juice jug, shoe, dog.

Sizing up the options.

Surprisingly, Lucky lost out in this competition.  Angela quickly stopped taking pictures to grab her old running shoe out of Thomas's eager grip.

Tallmadge trick-or-treating for Thomas

Thursday we dressed Thomas up in his Winnie the Pooh costume and took him around to some people we know around the neighborhood.  While Thomas cannot yet eat candy, his parents did receive a few fun sized pieces.

Another late Tuesday post

Thomas likes to move.  Over the past few weeks, he's gotten pretty good at scooting himself around the floor.  He'd be crawling already if he could figure out how to move his arms.  Well, this past weekend, he started moving his left arm while up on all fours.  After moving his arm, he promptly falls to the ground, but it is a step, or crawl, in the right direction.

Thomas has also been standing against furniture, with help from his parents of course.  Once he does figure out this balance thing, we're sure he'll be running everywhere and getting into everything.

The dog is always good motivation.

Adventures of the week

The week began with lots of laundry. Mommy decided to put it away, and Thomas wanted to offer his assistance. He was sure to put every hanger in his mouth, so he could mark them as his own. He didn't want any of his adorable outfits to be confused with someone else's.

He even managed to get his feet involved.
Then Thomas decided to sport some Notre Dame apparel, so he could be just like Daddy. Uncle Steven was determined to work on Thomas's hand-eye coordination and teach his nephew how to properly hold and catch a football.

Thomas took his lessons very seriously.

"Look Mom, I think I'm doing it correctly."

Thomas's first catch (Immediately followed by Thomas's first fumble, much to Uncle Steven's dismay)

Later in the week, Grandma and Papa came over to visit.Thomas was so excited to see them when he woke up from his nap.

All the excitement tired him out

Thomas then discovered a new game to play with Mommy and Daddy. He's learned to get up on all fours and peer over the side of his crib, anxiously awaiting to be picked up.

"Dad, I see you."

"Really, can you please put down the camera and pick me up?"
Finally Thomas made it another week and was very excited about it.

Another week older

Thomas has completed another week and is growing like crazy. He is trying out new foods, but has decided to stick with cereal. Today he warmed up to squash a bit, on our second attempt. Perhaps it's because we tried them when he was well-rested and distracted by the dog.

Checking out the grass

Thomas tried to pull some grass to put in his mouth. This was the end of the grass photos.
"Really Mommy, I'm very awake. There's no need to sleep."

"The DOG is here?!"

Thomas has learned to actually pet Lucky. He's actually quite gentle. He doesn't even try to put her in his mouth.

He just loves this dog. I don't believe the feelings are mutual.

At the doctors

Thomas had his six-month appointment with the doctor Friday morning.  He is 16 pounds, 6 inches, and is 27 1/4 inches long.  The bad news is that he received a full battery of shots, making him sleepy during the day and fussy last night.

Last night we tried feeding Thomas is his first carrots.  He was not very happy.  Notice that we brought out his small high chair so it takes only one person to feed him.

He never really warmed up to carrots.

I'm not sure about this, Mommy!

Six months!

Our little guy has already been here for half a year, and we've even enjoyed most of the months!  In all honesty, Thomas is a good baby who won't be a baby much longer.  In many ways, he's already a lot like his father- communicates with grunts, needs a nap after he eats, whimpers himself to sleep...

Regardless, here are some more pictures of Thomas on this important milestone.

Follow the bouncing ball

Thomas is moving more, but not exactly crawling yet.  As the following video from last week will show, he will chase after things, but not in the most efficient way.

(Sorry for the chunk of posts- we had lots to post and finally took the time to do it!)

The Tuesday post

Thomas is 26 weeks old and a day away from being six months old!  It is very strange to remember what we were doing a year ago as we slowly prepared for him to be born.

Weekend happenings.

This past weekend we went out and visited Joe's parents for his birthday.  Joe's grandparents were there as well to share in the birthday festivities.

Our protege

Occasionally, Joe will put Thomas in front of the piano to see what our son will do.  After a few times, he gets the general idea, but he needs a few lessons before his first recital.
